Riley McGree insists that there is no bad blood with Ange Postecoglou after his January move to Celtic fell through.

After signing three players from the J-League on the last day of December the Celtic boss was wanting to add another midfielder to his squad.

Having known McGree since the start of his career in Australia the Birmingham City midfielder appeared to be a good fit with reports that a move to Glasgow were well in advance.

Middlesbrough suddenly appeared on the scene, the Celtic move went cold with the Championship side gloating on Twitter when McGree selected Teeside ahead of Lennoxtown and an Aussie reunion.

Celtic switched their attention to Matt O’Riley with all parties very satisfied with the outcome.

Reflecting on his January move, McCree told Otus Sport:

With all due respect to Celtic and Ange, my ambition is to play in the Premier League, and I feel like coming here to Middlesbrough, the position they’re in, potential automatic promotion or promotion going into the playoffs, I feel like it was the best opportunity to get to where I want to be in my end goal and what I want to achieve in my career.

There’s no bad blood on my end, but it’s hard not to take notice of (the response) and hard not to see on my social media. But it is what it is, and as a professional, I maybe didn’t expect it to be of the magnitude it was, but it is what it is. And I learn from my experiences and soldier on.

With Celtic hoping to clinch the SPFL title this weekend Middlesbrough are looking to win away at Preston while hoping that Luton Town and Sheffield United slip-up to allow Boro into the last play-off place.
