Daizen Maeda will soon complete the formalities of signing a four year Celtic contract.

The forward joined Celtic on December 31 but unlike Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi his move was initially on loan from Yokohama Marinos.

Maeda scored five minutes into his debut, at home to Hibs, with five more goals in the SPFL from 13 starts and two appearances off the bench.

With Giorgos Giakoumakis and Kyogo Furuhashi competing for the main striking role Maeda has recently been playing on the left wing where he is as comfortable tracking back into defence as he is terrifying goalkeepers as they accept pass-backs.

Daizen will absolutely be here. It was more of a technicality. He was always going to be with us long-term. There was no issue around that. It was just the way the deal was structured with Yokohama. He’s signed for four years, so he’ll be here for the future

There was little time between Maeda finishing the J-League season and moving to Celtic, making his debut 10 days after joining his new team-mates in training.

At the start of February he played on consecutive days for Japan and Celtic with both of those campaigns having a successful conclusion.

After four months at Celtic he can look forward to pre-season training with the Champions League and World Cup Finals before the turn of the year under a manager that knows and trusts him.
