Callum McGregor takes a glance towards Ronaldo any time that his heavy schedule of matches is mentioned.
At the age of 37 the Manchester United forward is still breaking records for club and country, looking to be involved in every match.
Last season Ronaldo’s stats dropped slightly but that was more to do with his dismal collection of team mates at Old Trafford although their new arrival from Turin did manage to dig them out of a few holes.
Unusually last season McGregor spent two brief spells out injured, missing four matches in September and two at the end of January. Typically he returned far quicker than anticipated from the second spell out with his mask summing up the spirit of the squad as he inspired Celtic to the title.
Covering his remarkable catalogue of fixture the Glasgow Times reports:
Ronaldo played 45 games for Juventus, Manchester United and Portugal during the 2021/22 campaign despite being 37 and McGregor feels the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s success shows that he can continue to produce good performances for club and country for years to come if he follows expert advice.
“These guys are the phenomenon’s of the sport,” he said. “You’re always looking at them and how can you try and maximise your ability and do what you can within the game and the sport.
“Now, sports science is so vital to the players, everybody leans on it in some way or another. Some people like to go right in depth, others will skim on the outside of it. All this science is available to you to live your life properly and rest up when you need to. You do the right things and hopefully that will give you that longevity in your career.”
McGregor still has four or possibly five Scotland matches before he draws a line under this season.
