Scott Brown has been announced as the new manager of Fleetwood Town.

At the weekend the former Celtic skipper announced that he was retiring from playing to concentrate his energies on moving into management.

Brown spent the first part of this season as player-coach at Aberdeen but stepped away from that role when Stephen Glass was sacked in February.

Under Ronny Deila Brown had a stint assisting the Celtic Development squad but under Brendan Rodgers he concentrated his energies on playing, leading Celtic to the Quadruple Treble before quitting the hoops a year ago.

Fleetwood Chairman Andy Pilley said:

I’m absolutely delighted to name Scott Brown as the club’s new first-team Head Coach. It was important as a club we took our time with this appointment and was delighted by the high calibre of candidates who applied.

After a thorough interview process it was clear Scott was the outstanding candidate and someone who’s a born leader, a serial winner, and incredibly serious about becoming a successful manager. We feel we are the perfect club for Scott to start his managerial career and he’s the perfect person to lead us to a new era at Highbury Stadium – it’s a hugely exciting appointment for Fleetwood Town.

In November Stephen Crainey stepped up as Caretaker Manager of Fleetwood but has stepped down after they finished the season in fifth bottom place in League One, avoiding relegation on goal difference.
