Sky Sports seemed to be reluctant to highlight controversy during today’s Glasgow Derby.

Bobby Madden’s display in the Scottish Cup semi-final two weeks ago was highlighted by Chris Sutton and others with John Beaton in charge of today’s clash.

Like Madden at Hampden there was no major call like a penalty kick or a straight ordering off but the Belshilll based ref had a few big decisions to call.

On the half hour mark and leading by a goal Celtic had a promising move down the left wing.

Jota dispossessed James Tavernier then survived a wild swipe from the Ibrox skipper. As he raced into the penalty box he was confronted by Connor Goldson, moving right to a more central position, Tavernier ran straight into the winger, bringing the move to a halt. Play on, no penalty.

Despite having just one goal to cover in their half time analysis Sky Sports didn’t turn to Kris Boyd for his views on the incident. It may have been judged as ‘soft’ but a penalty is a penalty, they aren’t awarded on degree of severity.

Forward players are coached to cut across defenders for the very reason shown above, Tavernier should have checked his run which would have given Jota a clear shot at goal.

Seven players were booked today, six of them in the last 30 minutes of the match.

Never a penalty and you know it. Silly to bring up a tweet from a guy that can’t even spell right.
