Woops- Swiss Ramble sets the record straight for double counting Scottish Daily Express

The Scottish Daily Express has been caught cooking the books as they present another Ibrox good news sorry to their readership.

Taking things a few steps too far Sports Editor Lindsay Herron has splashed with a £50m windfall to sit alongside the incredible sums about to be offered for Calvin Bassey.

Earlier today Swiss Ramble provided a precise breakdown of UEFA prize money for this season with £17m going to Ibrox and £9m to Celtic.

Ticket money and any performance bonuses from sponsors aren’t included but in raw terms it provides an accurate breakdown of the payments heading to Glasgow from UEFA.

Herron reports:

Scottish Express Sport had already revealed that the club that Gio van Bronckhorst’s side had pulled in £15.5 million in UEFA prize money for making it all the way to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium where they agonisingly lost on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

This included all payments for wins, draws and incremental progression in the tournament – as well as just under £1million for the club’s 10-year coefficient – and Rangers have only played in Europe for the last five years.

It ha now been revealed that the TV market share money will come in at a massive £17million, according to reputable football finance blogger Swiss Ramble.

Having quoted the ‘reputable football finance blogger’ it is now time to serve up humble pie and inform Express readers that the £17m quoted was originally covered in the £15.5m windfall.
