Alexander Bernabei is reported to be flying to Scotland this week to complete his transfer to Celtic.

A number of sources in Argentina have reported that Celtic and Lanus have agreed a fee just short of £4m for the 21-year-old who will become the first ever Argentinian to join the hoops.

Mohaned Jeaze of Hammerby had been linked with a move to Celtic but it seems that Ange Postecoglou has switched his attention to South America for competition to Greg Taylor at left-back.

This afternoon Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo tweeted:

Alexander Bernabei, a 21-year-old winger-winger, will arrive in Scotland this week. Once he has passed the medical check-ups, he will sign for 5 years with Celtic. Lanús sold 90% of the economic rights and kept 10%.

The defender does have the shadow of a two match suspension hanging over him after being sent off in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Colon which looks like his farewell appearance for Lanus.

That suspension could follow him to Scotland but with Lanus playing on June 26 and 30 delaying the transfer until July 1 would leave Bernabei in the clear when he becomes a Celtic player.

Celtic have already committed around £6m to signing Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, with Bernabei on board and a deal for the signing of Jota, spending is reaching towards £20m ahead of the first Champions League campaign since 2017.
