Bobby Madden forced to give up highly lucrative income source

Bobby Madden has been forced to step down from the lucrative UEFA circuit following the Malta v Estonia Nations League match on Thursday night.

That was the sixth UEFA pay day for the East Kilbride based referee who will now concentrate on his appointments with the SFA and Greek League.

Madden refereed six European matches in the season just finished and probably picked up fees and expenses as a fourth official for other matches.

With UEFA paying $6,500US for Champions League group matches and $10,000US for knock out ties Madden will be taking a serious income hit, in the season just finished Willie Collum was expected to be paid $96,000 US from UEFA on top of very generous expenses.

Last season Madden was in charge of seven Celtic matches including six of Ange Postecoglou’s first 24 SPFL Premiership matches.

He started out at Tynecastle wrongly disallowing a ‘goal’ from Liel Abada and allowing his podcast buddy Andy Halliday free reign on Callum McGregor. At Hampden in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup John Lundstram was allowed a free pass by the East Kilbride based referee.
