Carl Starfelt has left the Swedish international squad as he waits to find out the extent of the injury that he suffered against Slovenia on Thursday night.

Shortly before half-time the Celtic defender was stretchered off with reports of the injury varying between hamstring and back.

Sweden have three more matches to play this month, two against Norway and at home to Serbia, but Starfelt will play no part in those fixtures as Expressen reports:

Earlier on Friday, the national team announced that Carl Starfelt is leaving the Nations League collection due to injury concerns.

The midfielder stepped down from Thursday’s meeting with Slovenia (2-0) after taking the back thigh. A replacement has now been called in.

Whether it is home to Sweden or back to Glasgow it will be an anxious time for the player as he awaits results of X-rays.

A year ago Starfelt failed to make it into the Sweden squad for the European Championships but a combination of his form for Celtic and injuries saw him in from the start against Slovenia.

Ange Postecoglou will be putting his squad through an intensive training schedule in Austria next month, for fitness and selection purposes the former Rubin Kazan defender will want to play a full part in Celtc’s pre-season preparations.
