Liam Scales’ proposed move to Aberdeen has been put on hold as Celtic review their defensive options ahead of next month’s training camp in Austria.

The Irishman is wanted by Aberdeen, almost certainly on loan, with the Dons announcing the signing of Ylber Ramadani from MTK Budapest on a £100,000 deal from MTK Budapest.

Scales has also been linked with a move to Pittodrie but at this moment Celtic seem short on numbers for central defence.

A deal has still to be completed for the transfer of Cameron Carter-Vickers while his defensive partner Carl Starfelt is waiting to discover the extent of the injury he picked up playing for Sweden against Slovenia.

With Chris Jullien overlooked in the second half of the season Stephen Welsh is the only central defender currently available to Postecoglou which has had a knock-on effect for Scales.

Discussing transfer activity at Aberdeen, the Daily Record reports:

Another player that is on the radar is Celtic defender Scales, although that could be delayed until the champions get more players back from injury.

Celtic paid a fee in the region of £500,000 last August to Shamrock Rovers for Scales, after a promising run of appearances through the winter he hasn’t played since starting at left-back away to Bodo Glimt in February.
