Giorgos Giakoumakis played for 57 minutes as Greece won 1-0 away to Kosovo in the Nations League yesterday.

Although he failed to score the win made it two out of two for Gus Poyet’s side as they look to find a way to the 2024 European Championships in Germany- 20 years after they won the tournament in Portugal. On Thursday Greece beat Northern Ireland 1-0 at Windsor Park.

After his move to Celtic from VVV Venlo at the end of August Giakoumakis didn’t have his problems to seek in the second half of the year.

With Kyogo Furuhashi out injured Giakoumakis took his opportunity with both hands with a glut of goals alongside dominating performances as Celtic stormed from six points behind to claim the SPFL title.

Winning the SPFL title and finishing the season as joint top scorer with Regan Charles-Cook represents a fair return from the Greek striker who has two more matches before he can put his feet up for a brief break.

On Thursday Greece host Cyprus before the return match with Kosovo on Sunday completes an eventful season for Giakoumakis.
