According to some reports originating from Portugal, Alfa Semedo is on his way to Celtic on a season long loan from Vitoria Guimaraes.

The 24-year-old has a very varied CV that includes loan spells with Reading and Nottingham Forest, and after a little digging the winning goal in a Champions League group match.

Semedo can point to his goal in the 2018 clash away to AEK Athens. Twelve minutes after coming off the bench he fired the fifth goal of the match from outside the penalty box past the despairing dive of Vasilis Barkas! Also on the pitch was AEK substitute Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Semedo seems to be one of a number of defensive midfielders that Ange Postecoglou has targeted to get Celtic primed for the Champions League.

Vinicius Souza of Lommel appears to be high on that list but with Ajax also keen on the Brazilian Celtic have their work cut out on that deal.

With pre-season training starting on Monday it is likely that transfer activity will be intensified as Postecoglou’s third transfer window gets underway.
