Celtic have a very simple solution to the prospect of Alexandro Bernabei being hit with a two match ban after being sent off for Lanus in their 1-0 win over Colon on Sunday night.

The defender is expected to join Celtic in a £3.7m deal as Ange Postecoglou cranks up his summer transfer activity.

According to the Daily Record the new bhoy’s debut could be put on hold:

Celtic face an anxious wait to see if incoming new signing Alexandro Bernabei will be handed a two-match ban before he’s even kicked a ball for the Hoops.

Ange Postecoglou’s side look certain to snap up the left back from Lanus in a £3.75million deal after he said farewell to his teammates this week. His last game for his club in Argentina in their Primera Division saw him receive a straight red card for a headbutt aimed at Colon defender Augusto Schott, after a bust-up.

And now Celtic must sweat to see if the Argentinian Football Association includes his future suspension, which is likely to be a two-game ban for violent conduct, when the SFA request the International Transfer Certificate once the move is confirmed.

Celtic can find an easy walkaround by delaying the transfer of Bernabei until July 1, a week on Friday.

On Sunday Lanus are away to River Plate, four days later they take on Independiente. It wouldn’t harm the buying or selling club to allow Bernabei to serve his suspension for those two matches then join Celtic on July 1 with a clean slate.

Celtic’s first competitive match of the season is on July 31 when they host Aberdeen in the opening match of the SPFL Premiership season. Before that match the hoops have two matches scheduled in Austria, home friendlies against Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City as well as away games against Banik Ostrava and Legia Warsaw to bed in new signings.
