Scott Brown is reported to be keen on signing Luca Connell for Fleetwood Town.

After three seasons at Celtic without making a competitive appearance it was announced on Friday that the midfielder had been freed.

Brown saw Connell up close during the 2019/20 season but with half a dozen other midfielders around the former Bolton kid never made the breakthrough.

As an Irish u-21 internationalist and with a dozen Championship appearances at Bolton behind him Connell shouldn’t be short of offers with one former team-mate at the front of the queue.

The Sun reports:

FLEETWOOD TOWN boss Scott Brown is set to move for ex-Celtic team-mate Luca Connell. The 21-year-old has been released by the Hoops after a loan at Queens Park last season.

Irish midfielder Connell, who cost £350,000 from Bolton in 2019, has failed to make the breakthrough at Parkhead. Former Celtic captain Brown has already raided Scotland for St Johnstone’s Shaun Rooney.

Connell joined Celtic at the same time as Lee O’Connor, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Afolabi with only the former Manchester City defender making a success of the move.

O’Connor seemed to pick up his career on loan at Tranmere Rovers last season but after leaving Manchester United for Celtic playing in League Two probably wasn’t in his plans.
