The Green Brigade has shared an image of a mural inside Celtic Park welcoming refugees.

With issues relating to Ukraine and Rwanda in the news it is a very topical statement, reflective of the reasons why a football club was formed in 1887 in Glasgow’s east end.

The political edge of the Green Brigade creates a tension with the club, in 2016 Celtic were fined £8,616 by UEFA for a display of Palestinian flags during a Champions League qualifier against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

That resulted in an appeal being launched which paid the fine with an additional £176,000 split between two Palestinian charities.

Ange Postecoglou and his players have gone out of their way to show their gratitude to the backing of the Green Brigade but even last season there were issues.

Following the Glasgow Derby in February where flares and fireworks were in use the standing section of the ground was closed for the next match, a Scottish Cup tie at home to Raith Rovers.
