Jota snippet offers hope of Celtic deal going through

Jota’s permanent transfer to Celtic is still on course.

A month on from being presented with the SPFL Premiership title the deal for the Benfica winger has still to be concluded.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers joining on a four year contract last week some fans are getting concerned about the delay in completing the Jota deal.

There has been no suggestion of any problems with the transfer or alternative offers for the 23-year-old but with pre-season training two weeks away Ange Postecoglou will be looking to get transfer business completed.

Covering the transfer issues at Benfica, the Record of Portugal reports:

The sale of Everton (Sousa Soares) is considered a priority by SAD, but Benfica considers it crucial to sell another three players soon. Gabriel is close to heading to Botafogo for around €5M, while Jota is agreeing a contract with Celtic in a deal that will generate €7.5M.

It has been widely reported that Benfica want to have a 30% sell-on clause in a permanent deal, with the focus at Celtic switching from the balance sheet to the football pitch that clause shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Jota will need to impress in UEFA competitions to attract bids from elsewhere, if that happens Celtic, Benfica and the player will all benefit.

Postecoglou has spoken positively about the impact that Jota has had on his side but transfer and contract negotiations are outside of his remit.
