Atletico Madrid will have to sell before they can go into the market.

The Spanish side were recently credited with an interest in Josip Juranovic but it seems highly unlikely that a bid is about to be made.

Fabrizio Romano was first to break the news of interest in the Celtic defender, Sky Sports followed that up by naming Atletico as one of those clubs.

After an outstanding debut season at Celtic Juranovic impressed on the international stage as Croatia won away to Denmark and France in the Nations League.

Following lockdown finances are being revalued across Europe with Atletico having to balance the books despite an impressive record in European competitions going back over a decade.

Covering a Q & A session with the Atletico President Enrique Cerezo, AS reports:

-Do you need to sell Atleti before signing?

-I think that in order to sign we all need to sell. We will see to whom it is sold and to whom it is bought.

-There is a lot of talk about the 45 million that Atlético de Madrid has to get before June 30. Is that number true?

-It’s 40 million that we have to sell, and that’s where we are. The market is not easy, it is very difficult. And the economic situation you already know how it is.

-A right back is very necessary…

-Well, we already have the medium. It’s Witsel, which as you all know is practically done, and we’re looking for the side.

Celtic paid around £2.5m to Legia Warsaw last August for Juranovic with the defender signed up until May 2026.
