Stephen McGowan is expecting three more departures from Celtic while Chris Jullien completes his move to Schalke.

Ange Postecoglou embarked on a massive turnover of players last summer but still has a number of legacy issues from the Lawwell/Lennon years.

Recruitment from 2019 contributed greatly to the collapse in season 20/21 with even Postecoglou unable to revive those signings in the way he revived the careers of Tony Ralston and Tom Rogic.

Alexandro Bernabei is almost over the line as an arrival but there remains a few big earners clogging up the payroll.

Included in his round up of Chris Jullien’s move to Schalke, McGowan confirms in the Daily Mail:

Keeper Vasilis Barkas already on loan at Utrecht and Albian Ajeti, Ismael Soro and Boli Bolingoli all surplus to requirements.

Utrecht are believed to be paying two thirds of Barkas’ wages with the keeper still contracted to Celtic until May 2024, similar deals are likely to move on the others that are clearly not part of Postecoglou’s plans going forward.

On the fringes of the first team squad Liam Scales and Adam Montgomery have moved out on loan to Aberdeen and St Johnstone.

Can’t believe Bolingoli is still around. We should have straight-up fired the clown after his little covid-breaking jolly to Spain. Regardless we should be loaning these guys out, preferably to SPFL sides, let them contribute to putting the huns to the sword and even just to get their stale stench out of Lennoxtown. If we’re paying their wages anyway let’s just send them out and let them have a shop window to earn a move. Most clubs will have forgotten who these guys are they’ve been so invisible!

Some fans guilty of thinking, what they call “getting rid of the deadwood is easy. Not so.Not when players are on lucrative salaries.Out on loan to run down contract appears to be the route Celtic are trying to go down to deal with these legacy issues.
