Medical and loan- Fabrizio Romano’s Celtic update

Transfer

Fabrizio Romano has tweeted that Chris Jullien is undergoing a medical before joining Schalke on loan.

Last night The Sun claimed that three clubs were interested in signing the defender with a fee of £1.5m being quoted.

Although a loan is obviously different to a permanent move if Schalke are paying Jullien’s full wages that could be a saving of £1m or more from Celtic’s wage bill.

Romano tweeted:

Schalke are set to sign Christopher Jullien from Celtic. Done deal and medical ongoing right now – gonna be loan deal with buy option included #Schalke04 Contract to be signed later today, right after medical tests.

The Italian based reporter is regarded as something of a transfer guru on Twitter although last week’s claim about expecting Josip Juranovic to leave Celtic didn’t go down well with Hoops fans.

Jullien trained at Lennoxtown on Monday and Tuesday but with just one substitute appearance last season it looks like his time at Celtic is almost over.

After an impressive first season following his £7m move from Toulouse things went downhill with a knee injury against Dundee United in December 2020 forcing him out of action for more than a year as Ange Postecoglou rebuilt the Celtic squad.
