Ange Postecoglou faces an anxious wait to find out the full extent of Carl Starfelt’s injury.

The Celtic defender started tonight’s Nations League qualifier away to Slovenia but had to be replaced at half-time. Sweden won the match 2-0.

Sweden have three more Nations League matches this month but it seems certain that Starfelt will miss out with Celtic waiting anxiously for news.

Sport Bladet reported it as a knee injury but also mentioned Sweden’s midfield crisis, what can’t be in doubt is the level of pain that the picture shows with a heavy strapping on his thigh.

Starfelt played every minute of Celtic’s 2022 SPFL Premiership fixtures but was missing for a month in October with a hamstring problem.

Getting his squad through a full pre-season programme starting in Austria is the aim for Postecoglou. While Starfelt’s hamstring issue kept him out for a month David Turnbull and Kyogo Furuhashi both missed three months of action with more serious hamstring issues.
