Kerr McInroy is wanted by Kilmarnock as Derek McInnes prepares for the return of top flight football to Rugby Park.

The midfielder has been released by Celtic following loan spells at Airdrie and Ayr United, joining Kilmarnock would see him step up a division for the third time in just over a year.

McInroy came through the ranks at Celtic alongside Ewan Henderson but with six or more established first team midfielders competing for three places their development stuttered beyond Academy level.

Henderson’s loan to Hibs has been converted to a permanent deal, according to the Daily Record he could go head-to-head with his former Celtic team-mate next season:

Kilmarnock are keen on a move for Kerr McInroy after he was released by Celtic. Derek McInnes is interested in the midfielder as he prepares his squad for the return to the Scottish Premiership.

The Scotland under-21 international impressed on loan at Ayr United and is out of contract with the Parkhead side. McInnes reckons the 21-year-old could come in and add something to his newly promoted squad.

McInroy would offer versatility in the middle of the park as he can play in any central midfield position.

Ayr took the midfielder on loan in January, with two goals from 13 appearances he helped them steer clear of relegation on the final day of the season.

With the benefit of a full season playing at senior level behind him McInroy is capable of making a real impact in the Premiership with McInnes twice seeing the midfielder in action against Kilmarnock in the season just finished.
