Luca Connell has signed a three year contract with Barnsley.

The midfielder announced that he had been released by Celtic a fortnight ago without having played a single competitive match.

Connell had two spells on loan at Queens Park but has decided to return to England after quitting Bolton for Celtic in the summer of 2019.

Connel was linked with joining Scott Brown at Fleetwood Town but has opted to join League One rivals Barnsley with the security of a three year contract.

Arriving on the back of a dozen Championship appearances for Bolton as a teenager there were high hopes that the midfielder could make an impact on Neil Lennon’s side.

With Callum McGregor and Scott Brown as fixtures in the Celtic side Connell found the door closed with Nir Bitton, Tom Rogic and Oliver Ntcham among others ahead of him for a first team place.
