Fenerbahce have dropped their interest in Vinicius Souza after having an offer to Lommel rejected.

The Brazilan midfielder is wanted by Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Bologna and Celtic but it appears that Turkish interest in a defensive midfielder has switched to Danilo Pereira of Paris Saint Germain who, like manager Jorge Jesus is also Portuguese.

Celtic seem to be in the market for a defensive midfielder with Souza making a big impression last season on loan at Mechelen in the top flight of the Belgian league.

Turkish site Yeniakit reports:

According to the news compiled by Calendar; Jorge Jesus, who has made the transfers of Lincoln Henrique and Bruma since he took over as the technical boss of Fenerbahçe, definitely wants to make his next move to the midfield. According to the news in the Portuguese newspaper Record; Jorge Jesus wants to redesign Fenerbahçe’s central midfield.

For this purpose, while the names of William Carvalho, Sergio Oliveira, William Arao and Vinicius Souza were passed with Fenerbahçe, it was stated that the name that Jorge Jesus tried to persuade for the transfer was bigger and more successful.

It is stated that Jorge Jesus has been meeting with Portuguese national midfielder Danilo Pereira, whose future in Paris Saint-Germain has been a question mark for a while. It has been learned that if Fenerbahçe gets a positive response from Danilo, it will also meet with PSG, which is warm to the sale.

Celtic’s links with the City Football Group, which includes Lommel, plus the incentive of Champions League football should make them an option for Souza to seriously consider.

Against that Ajax and PSV Eindhoven have proven track record of developing and selling players on to the major leagues.

Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer and Kieran Tierney have made that move from Celtic in the last four years but the two major Dutch clubs have records going back decades of producing players for the very top clubs.
