‘What is going on at Ibrox’ ‘terrible decision’ ‘taking the easier and cheaper option’ Ibrox fans despair over McGregor’s new contract

Many Ibrox fans are despairing at the news that Allan McGregor has signed a new 12 month contract.

A month ago they were being fed tales of a massive rebuild with the club flooded with cash from the sale of Nathan Patterson, Steven Gerrard’s compensation and the £50m run to the final of the Europa League.

The icing on the cake will be the £25m plus sale of Calvin Bassey with clubs from across Europe ready to offer more than Arsenal paid for Kieran Tierney for the next Virgil van Dijk.

And then reality set in. Steve Davis followed Scott Arfield by signing a new contract but surely at the age of 40 there would be no new deal for Greegsy who had flapped his way through the domestic season as Selik took the title.

An early warning came when Hearts snatched a late draw at Ibrox, in the League Cup semi-final against Hibs the 39-year-old picked the ball out of the net three times in the first 35 minutes. Either side of his 40th birthday Ross County and Big Ange’s mob popped three past the former Hull City legend.

With no money spent so far in the window and little genuine speculation it is looking like a fifth season of action for the team that Steven Gerrard put together in 2018- winning two out of 12 trophies- the same number as St Johnstone.

Training resumes at Murray Park next week, as well as an absence of new faces one very old one will be in place with no sign that he is prepared to budge from his role.
