You’re a f***ing idiot! Steve Clarke’s son withdraws Tom English criticism

Steve Clarke’s son John has apologised after calling Tom English a f***ing idiot on twitter.

The chief sports writer at BBC Scotland piled in on the Scotland manager following the 3-0 defeat to Ireland in the Nations League.

English is from Limerick but likes to wrap himself in whatever flag his employer offers, during the 2014 Olympic Games in London he was highly emotional and patriotic covering the athletics for The Scotsman.

Radio Scotland has been highly critical of Clarke’s failure to defeat Ukraine, depriving the sports department of a lengthy November jolly to Qatar, with feelings boiling over after Saturday’s hammering in Dublin.

Covering the Twitter fall-out, the Daily Record reports:

English reckoned the manager is “suddenly toiling horribly”, as he Tweeted: “Ireland have been miles and miles better here, against all expectations.  Their attitude has been brilliant and their passion shames the Scots who have been utterly dreadful.

“Scotland’s use of the ball has been a joke. Steve Clarke is toiling horribly in the job all of a sudden.”

But that prompted an angry rebuke from John Clarke, who replied: “You’re a f*****g idiot. Who takes the job? A little bit of realism. A little bit of respect for the job that’s been done so far.”

A contrite Clarke Jr later apologised to English for the heat of the moment outburst.

He said: “Sorry Tom. I apologise for that last comment. I know you’re just doing you’re job. I’m just a bit upset at the result like all of us.”

In July English tipped the Ibrox Reserve side featuring talents like Cedric Itten, Jack Simpson and Juninho Bakuna to put in a better SPFL title challenge to Steven Gerrard’s Invincibles than Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic.

Earlier this year the BBC were forced to apologise to Celtic over a crass tweet from English following the death of Shane Warne.
