Nigeria broke a run of four matches without a victory when they beat Sierra Leone 2-1 last night despite another howler from Calvin Bassey.
After a couple of very athletic performances the former Leicester City starlet has become the subject of incredible transfer hype from the Scottish media.
It was decided that Aston Villa was the likely destination but that was diluted somewhat when Steven Gerrard spent £29m signing defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla.
Experts such as Sergio Porrini, Stephen Craigan and Kenny Miller have been drafted in to provide credibility with Bassey getting compared to Virgil van Dijk and Kieran Tierney after making 31 SPFL Premiership appearances over two seasons.
Bassey was in the Nigeria side that lost out to Ghana in the two-legged World Cup play-off, last week he wowed North America with his performances in the defeats from Mexico and Ecuador.
Yesterday’s goal from Sierra Leone had a very familiar theme about it with Bassey failing to track the run of a forward, Jonathan Morsay racing in on goal to be presented with a simple chance to score.

Bassey is halfway through a four year contract believed to be worth £5,000 a week following his move from Leicester City in 2020.
Are people daft comparing Bassey to Tierney no chance not in the class of him or Robertson
£25m?
You have missed out the decimal point in the valuation Joe…..

Scotlands sevco media shame are not daft they know exactly what they are doing but so do the rest of us.
