Aaron Mooy appears to be on his way to Celtic, reuniting with his former international boss to become the third new face of the transfer window.

The midfielder is available as a free agent after negotiating his release from Chinese side SH Port, with his wife from Glasgow, a legacy of his time with St Mirren there has been strong speculation that a deal could be agreed to work under Ange Postecoglou again.

Just after 10pm on Sunday Mike McGrath of the Telegraph tweeted:

Aaron Mooy to disappoint a host of Championship clubs to secure a dream move to #CelticFC as a free agent. Talks have progressed for the Australia midfielder to join squad of countryman Ange Postecoglou

With no other club involved negotiations should be completed quite quickly with international clearance required from China.

After Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers Postecoglou spoke confidently about bringing in two players this week, it looks like half of that target is about to fall into place.

Mooy has had a nomadic career that peeked in England when he helped Huddersfield to reach the EPL for the first time, in just over six weeks time the former St Mirren midfielder could be making his Champions League debut and booking a place in the Australian squad for the World Cup Finals.

Not disappointed with this news. With Ange in charge we can see the best of the Lad I’m sure. Another 1 or 2 and window will be positive.

He’s getting on a bit and hasn’t played a full season since 2019. Back-up option.
