Ajax are tight lipped on Bassey interest! Desperation of an Ibrox blogger

A week ago Ibrox fans, cheer-leaders, apologists and bloggers were coming to terms with the news that their star asset was valued at just £6m. Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa weren’t getting involved in a bidding war as Southampton picked up a bench warmer. 

Some predictable spin has been applied to the Imaginative Signing Policy with Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo made acceptable by turning down offers to Celtic. 

Reality wasn’t too last long, mid morning today on TalkSPORT and Jim White starts discussing Ajax and their interest in Calvin Bassey, the £25m man following his outstanding performance in the final of the Europa League, which his side lost. 

Springing straight into action was Derek Clark, the in-house Hamilton Accies fan that writes for the Rangers Review, the fan-media outlet for Newsquest, publishers of the Herald and Evening (Glasgow) Times. 

After losing the Europa League Final Clark took deflection to new extremes when he launched Watergate, uncovering heart-breaking stories of how elderly, disabled and pregnant bears were forced to drink toilet water to survive through extra-time to see Aaron Ramsey take a penalty. 

Despite no video evidence the stories flooded in. With Clark leading the campaign three club statements were issued about the problems thirsty bears encountered in the Ramon Sanchez Piswan Stadium in Seville. 

That story has been laid to rest. Now Clark is sussing out the biggest transfer story of the summer, contacting Ajax to get to the bottom of their interest in Bassey! 

The Dutch giants rarely spend big, they prefer to develop their own talent or scout Africa and South America for prospects. 

Last month Ajax splashed out a club record of £28m to sign Steven Bergwijn from Spurs, a similar fee for Bassey seems as likely as a bidding war for £20m former Charlton ace Joe Aribo. 

Sevilla are tight lipped about interest in Alfredo Morelos with Leeds also tight lipped about signing Ryan Kent.
