Alexandro Bernabei had a special welcome message before his home debut with the Argentine Celtic Supporters Club attending the friendly against Blackburn Rovers.

Just over a fortnight ago the young defender became Celtic’s first ever Argentinian player, the first new face to be added to last season’s squad after three loan deals were converted to permanent moves.

With a transfer fee believed to be costing £3.5m Bernabei is a serious investment by Celtic with Greg Taylor virtually unchallenged last season at left-back.

The Argentine CSC first appeared in Scotland in the spring of 2017 as the Invincibles closed in on the domestic treble.

Mainstream coverage of Celtic should increase in Argentina but Bernabei will be an after-thought with internationalists scattered across the biggest leagues in Europe.

Competing in the Champions League would certainly get Bernabei noticed but Taylor will have his own ambitions in that direction.
