Ange booked in for Zoom call to Celtic transfer target

Celtic will hold face-to-face signing talks with Dylan Reid on Monday with Ange Postecoglou on Zoom.

St Mirren have agreed a fee of £125,000 with St Mirren but the midfielder has still to discuss exactly where he fits in with Celtic’s plans.

Postecoglou has made it clear that Reid is for the B team squad but fixtures against Cowdenbeath, Caledonian Braves and Edinburgh Uni are unlikely to fulfil the ambitions of an ambitious 17-year-old.

Finding a bridge from Academy and B team through to the first team is the challenge for Stephen McManus to head up with Postecoglou on call for his persuasive powers.

Scott Burns of the Daily Record reports:

Celtic will hold signing talks with Dylan Reid on Monday.

The Hoops have already agreed a £125,000 fee for the St Mirren youngster. The Buddies turned down a rival offer from Rangers last week. The Scotland under-17 cap has now been given permission to speak to Celtic. Ange Postecoglou confirmed Celtic’s interest at the weekend but admitted he was very much an option for their B team.

Reid will meet with B team coaches Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea before he makes a decision on his future. Postecoglou is also likely to be involved, via Zoom, from the Hoops’ base in Austria.

The teenager has already attracted interest from Benfica in the past and it remains to be seen if this Celtic offer sparks rival bids. He is highly thought of at St Mirren and made his first-team debut when he was just 16.

Celtic do have the incentive of six UEFA Youth League ties to offer Reid but it is still a huge ask to get players transitioning from B team to first team squad.

Last season Scott Robertson, Adam Montgomery, Ross Doohan, Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide were all sent out on loan with only Urhoghide able to make a decent case for returning to Celtic having advanced his prospects towards a place in the first team squad.
