BBC Scotland has pointed the finger of blame at Michael Stewart as the first act in their new partnership with the Ibrox Tribute Act.

This morning the state broadcaster issued a grovelling apology through Twitter that brings to an end their seven year stand off with the SPFL runners-up.

That was quickly followed by the Ibrox club making reference to an apology issued to James Traynor by the former Manchester United and Scotland midfielder.

With a cast of dozens of former Ibrox employees to call on the prospect of even more favourable Ibrox coverage is something to dread.

Providing a pointer into their future direction the BBC Scotland website reported:

In May, pundit Michael Stewart apologised to former Rangers communications director James Traynor and Rangers after remarks made on BBC Radio Scotland. The BBC made its own apology at the time of the comments in 2020.

Rangers also issued a statement on Wednesday saying it acknowledged the recognition of past errors and the BBC apology, as well as the recent apology from Mr Stewart. It added it expected reporting at Ibrox to resume for the 2022-23 season.

It is something of a mystery as to why BBC Scotland decided to bring Stewart into an dispute going back to 2015, unless they were just following instructions.

To clear things up BBC Scotland really should publish the apologies that they’ve made when they haven’t met their own standards covering issues at Ibrox rather than point the finger at Stewart.
