Celtic Park was crackling with atmosphere and excitement today as 60,000 fans crammed inside for the final salute to last season’s SPFL title winners.

Two hours before kick off Callum McGregor proudly carried the trophy up The Celtic Way and into the main entrance, passing respectfully past Brother Walfrid, Jock Stein and Jimmy Johnstone.

Across the four stands the Green Brigade had been hard at work, putting together their first full stadium Tifo since 2017 to greet the players as they came onto the pitch.

The match started in glorious style with a second minute goal from Stephen Welsh, Celtic threatened to sweep Aberdeen aside but somehow the Dons goal survived unto half time.

It took until the 75th minute for Jota to score Celtic’s second goal with a stunning 25 yard diagonal that would have done justice to any occasion.

After matchday 1 Celtic are sitting at the top of the Premiership table- and three points better off than they were last season after an opening day defeat at Tynecastle.
