Chris Jullien’s prospects of a move to Trabzonspor could be killed off by two former Celtic defenders

The Frenchman is in the final season of his Celtic deal, recently a move to Schalke broke down with Jullien returning to be involved in all four of Celtic’s pre-season friendlies to date.

It seems quite clear that Ange Postecoglou has other priorities for central defence with Moritz Jenz of Lorient looking like another option ahead of Jullien.

At 6.38pm on Monday the Daily Record claimed:

Christopher Jullien is reportedly of interest to Trabzonspor. The centre-back was all set for a move to Schalke earlier this summer before the deal collapsed the 11th hour.

He still looks likely to leave Glasgow and Sporx report the Turkish side have him on a list of potential targets.

A look at the SporX website and their Trabzonspor page does confirm that they are looking to bring in a defender, preferably to join their Austrian training camp which starts tomorrow.

Jullien’s name is included but of all the defenders in Europe Dedryk Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko are among five options Trabzonspor are believed to be considering.

Last name on the agenda for Trabzonspor’s defender was Christopher Jullien, who wore the Celtic jersey. Trabzonspor conveyed the official offer for the player, for whom 3 million testimonials were requested. While bargaining for the salary and testimonial continued, it was learned that the player wanted to come to Trabzonspor.

Boyata will be out of contract from Hertha Berlin on August 12, Sviatchenko is under contract with Midtjylland until June 2024.

The complexity of Jullien’s contract situation and his lack of competitive action over the last 18 months makes any move difficult.

The player has the guarantee of a decent salary through until next June with any buying club likely to be concerned about 15 minutes of football played last season. A loan deal becomes complex with Celtic guarding against an upturn in form allowing the former Toulouse defender being able to leave next summer without a fee being paid.
