Once again the Transfer Window Trophy is heading to Ibrox, taking pride of place among all of the other meaningless celebrations fabricated over recent years.

Stunning swoops are back in fashion with Liverpool star Ben Davies joining the fastest man in the planet, Rabbi Matondo, in a ‘new look’ squad that has retained Steve Davis, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.

The experience of watching Celtic and St Johnstone dominate the domestic trophies has been retained while Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent countdown the days until they can sign pre-contract deals in January.

Kris Boyd and Barry Ferguson augment the cheerleaders at BBC Scotland with the former Portland Timbers goal-ace usually the loudest and least credible when it comes to transfer business.

Chris Sutton has watched Boydy embarrass himself time and time again, looking back to January he reminded Daily Record readers of the exciting transfer business that Giovanni van Bronckhorst carried out in January:

In terms of Rangers, there looks to be some decent signings on paper. We’ll have to wait and see but nothing is guaranteed.

We all thought Amad Diallo was going to be a smash hit in these parts, but that didn’t quite work out. Same goes for Aaron Ramsay. He was the greatest capture since Gazza but barely made a mark.

With Morelos and Kemar Roofe unlikely to be seen before the end of August it looks like van Bronckhorst will have to rely on Antonio Blank Colak to score the goals to bring Champions League football to Ibrox.

With Roofe & Morelos still injured, and with new signings / loanees talked up by the SMSM as the bestest ever…

GvB will be expected to get the season off to flier.

Any early season wobbles, and the knives could come out rather quickly at Ibrox.

What are the odds GvB is gone by Christmas? 🙂
