Neil Doncaster has warned fans about the consequences of pitch invasions but it seems OK for broken glass to be found in the penalty area without any questions asked by the SPFL.

Over his 12 years in the Scottish game it is difficult to remember a worthwhile contribution from the SPFL Chief Executive although he does carry significant support from member clubs with Peter Lawwell a staunch backer of the former Norwich supremo.

Since Scott Brown was confronted on the pitch at Ibrox in April 2017 in a match that saw Scott Sinclair subjected to racist abuse and a hand sized battery thrown at Celtic players Doncaster has taken a vow of silence on safety as he protects his beloved O** F*** cash cow.

In April of this year Joe Hart found broken glass in his penalty box as he prepared for action at Ibrox, the second half was held up for five minutes as the health danger was cleared but afterwards there was no action taken by the SPFL, not even a token enquiry to announce that all reasonable measures had been taken.

At the same fixture a member of the Celtic medical team required stitches after being struck by a glass bottle at the end of the first half.

Ahead of the new season The Scotsman reports Doncaster saying:

While pitch invasions like those which were depressingly frequent down south at the end of last season are not something we commonly see in Scottish football, we are not complacent and in the coming season, we will be working hard with our colleagues at Police Scotland, club safety officers and other authorities to ensure that anyone misbehaving is going to be found and punished severely.

Clubs have invested heavily in CCTV systems, stewarding and policing but the vast majority of decent fans also have a crucial role to play in pointing out unacceptable behaviour, so that we can all focus on the things that make Scottish football so uniquely exciting.

It seems that the heavy investment in CCTV at Ibrox has been unable to work out how broken glass made its way onto the Ibrox pitch at half time against Celtic.

Twice in 2019 parts of Ibrox were closed by UEFA following racist abuse, no action has ever been taken against the club by the SFA, SPFL or SPL since formation by Charles Green in 2012.
