Ibrox fans are starting to come around to the reality that their Magic Money Tree has been felled.

In the final months of the season they were fed stories about the £50m Europa League windfall, the fees for Steven Gerrard and Nathan Patterson best of all Calvin Bassey was a £25m asset with clubs across Europe set to launch a bidding war for the former Leicester starlet.

Then the Season Ticket money came in and John Souttar was signed. More Castore ‘kwality-gear-man’ was pushed at the gullibles.

With the Season Ticket money banked the accountants have taken over from the salesmen.

Even some fans on Follow Follow is starting to waken up.

Losses of £23.5m for season 20/21 didn’t disappear. When Dave King was repaid in full with interest others took note. The cash for equity days are over. If the former chairman gets his money back so do the mysterious investors that have propped up the Tribute Act.

Repaying previous loans and being forced to settle with Sports Direct will have devastated Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s transfer war-chest.

With no offers coming in for Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo or Ryan Kent PAOK are being portrayed as the villains of the day for holding out for £2.6m on Antonio Colak.

Perhaps Alex Rae got the figures mixed up when he told Daily Record readers about the financial stability of the club founded by Charles Green in 2012.
