Everton fans are starting to wake up to the expensive mistake that is Nathan Patterson.

Egged on by the Scottish media and fed international caps by the SFA the Ibrox starlet moved to Goodison Park in January after starting just five SPFL matches.

At any level it was a huge risk by a club heading towards a relegation battle. BBC Merseyside described the fee as undisclosed while Tom English and their counterparts in Scotland frothed over £11m up front with a further £5m in add-ons.

After 45 minutes of action against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup it seems unlikely that any of those add-ons will ever reach the Marble Stairway.

With Financial Fair Play a reality in England Everton have been selling off players this summer. As he gears up for a new relegation battle with his own future on the line it looks unlikely that the Murray Park starlet will see much if any playing time in the EPL.

A loan deal to Hearts to join up with Barrie McKay or to an English Championship side looks like the next step for the Murray Park starlet.
