First SPFL managerial casualty falls before Matchday 1!

Motherwell have sacked Graham Alexander less than 48 hours before the first game of the domestic season. 

The former Burnley and Scotland full-back replaced Stephen Robinson in January 2021 and guided the Lanarkshire club into fifth place last season and a Europa Conference place. 

That league form was largely built around the goals of Tony Watt in the first half of the season before his move to Dundee United. 

Following the winter break Motherwell only won 3 out of 18 SPFL matches finishing with a 6-0 defeat to champions Celtic. 

That form continued into the UEFA Conference where they lost home and away to Sligo Rovers with fans booing the team midway through last week’s home match. 

Motherwell don’t meet Celtic until they visit the champions on October 1. On SundayMotherwell face former manager Robinson away at St Mirren.
