While the Scottish media get behind the Imaginative Signing Policy from Ibrox Derek Rae is able to offer a more detached view on Rabbi Matondo.
After stunning swoops for Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence it seems that Matondo is the next part of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s transfer jigsaw.
The key aspect for Scottish reporters to grasp is that Schalke paid £11m for Matondo in 2019.
As anyone who has followed the career of Oli Burke appreciates paying big money for a pacey teenager comes with no guarantee of football ability.
Burke has been trying to learn the game at a variety of clubs including Celtic but beyond blistering pace his contribution is at best limited. Likewise Matondo.
With the Amad Dialo treatment awaiting once he signs on at Ibrox expectations will be sky high but with three weeks to go until his first Champions League qualifier the clock is ticking against van Bronckhorst.
As a long term commentator on German football Rae knows a dud when he sees one.
Bild reporting as part of the comings & goings at Schalke, the transfer of Rabbi Matondo to Rangers could be announced as early as today. Would be another player not in the picture, yet a relatively high earner relative to experience, off a wage bill that needs to be trimmed.

He is incredibly fast but when he played for Schalke, game awareness & technical side needed work. Admittedly that was a long time ago now. Apparently fared better in Belgium. S04 weren’t planning with him though.

There is absolutely nothing about this transfer that excites me. Has all the makings of another poor transfer

Remember back in the early eighties when the only job a dud could get was the cuoncil cleansing (clennie). New Rangers are the New clennie, I take that back don’t want to insult the poor cleansing staff they work hard cleaning up this great city of ours after the zombies celebrate their “culchur”
