Expectations that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be handed fresh funds from the sale of Calvin Bassey have been extinguished tonight.

The Ibrox PR machine are trying to spark a bidding war but the speculation seems to be very much one way with nothing coming out of Ajax or Brighton about putting in a bid for the Ibrox defender.

In just over two weeks time Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces a Champions League qualifier in which he’ll either have a depleted squad or an unsettled defender stuck on the same wages as he was on two years ago while his club try to find a £20m buyer.

On message Jonny McFarlane of The Rangers Review tweeted then deleted the following message:

Rangers are in no rush for a replacement for Calvin Bassey. There’s total faith in Borna Barisic at left-back, while Adam Devine can fill in as seen today. At centre-back, John Souttar has been brought in for a reason and will play a big part.

After using Heart & Hand to leak news to supporters last season The Rangers Review, part of the Herald/Times group is the preferred news outlet for this season.

Led by Jonny McFarlane the club can be assured of 100% obedience with no prospect of a follow up question or critical analysis from the former Daily Record social media supremo.
