Despite being shown up by Fabrizio Romano, Jonny McFarlane is sticking to his claim that it will require a £10m fee to take Joe Aribo to Southampton.
Over the last month the editor of the Rangers Review (and The Celtic Way) has been a loyal messenger for the Ibrox board, attempting to keep fans onside as a disastrous transfer window unfolds.
As the season ended Calvin Bassey became a £25m defender simply on the basis that Celtic had sold a serial winner for that fee three years ago. On the back of that similar hyped up fees were attached to Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos despite a complete lack of interest in any of those ‘talents’.
With kits recently flown about for Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa’s interest in Aribo Southampton have arrived with a loose change offer for the former Charlton starlet.
Romano is acknowledged as a transfer expert- as he takes the Italian to task McFarlane’s judgement seems as hopeless as his comparison between Kieran Tierney and Barrie McKay.
Joe Aribo’s exit from Rangers looming. The clubs are close to agreeing a £10m package plus a significant sell-on. For a £300k signing with a year left on his contract this surely represents a really solid piece of business.

After Lavia, Southampton are also set to sign Joe Aribo. Been told deal is almost done for £6m plus add-ons to Rangers. No problem on player side, as was reported by @David_Ornstein. Incoming director Joe Shields, key for the move. ??? #SaintsFC

I know you’re trying to put a positive spin on it, but allowing your best player to enter into the final year of his contract and leave for £6m, plus potential add-ons, does not represent a really solid piece of business, I’m afraid.

Doing a fair amount of turd polishing there. He’s not going to get sold on for any significant fee.

Never in all my life time have I heard a £6m

It’s only good business if board actually give Gio money from sale and not sell for 10 but bring a replacement in on loan or for 1 million pound and trying to shop bargain basement in hope they unearth another Kamara for peanuts they need to invest a large portion back in team

I saw a report rangers had accepted 6 mill and add on’s. The fans would be outraged by this.
