Kris Boyd isn’t noted as being one of the smartest judges on the media circuit.

At the end of January he could hardly be restrained as he celebrated the greatest signing in Scottish football since the arrival of Paul Gascoigne in the nineties.

That prediction went spectacularly wrong but ahead of the 22/23 season it looks as if the judgement of the former Kilmarnock striker has taken a turn for the better.

Praising Celtic doesn’t come easily, he managed to avoid the title clincher and trophy presentation at the end of last season but on the Sky Sports website he explained:

You just have to look at the fact Jota came in on loan last season and did really well. Celtic scored 92 goals en route to winning the title and his contribution, the way he plays the game, was crucial.

Jota has got that little bit of x-factor in terms of what he can bring in the final third. Celtic have spent a lot of money on him but, after 13 goals and 14 assists across all competitions last season, it suggests he has got another big season ahead.

Signed on deadline day last summer Jota missed Celtic’s first 11 matches last season then sat out the December programme due to a hamstring injury.

Matching or surpassing last season’s statistics will ut Ange Postecoglou’s side in a very strong position to add to last season’s successes.
