Celtic moved into top spot in the SPFL Premiership with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen.

There was an awkward 73 minutes between the goals of Stephen Welsh and Jota when the match should really have been done and dusted before half time.

Aberdeen looked in serious danger of a hammering after Welsh nodded home a second minute corner from Matt O’Riley but despite numerous good passages of play and promising deliveries into the box the hoops were lacking a cutting edge.

The hoops were hardly prolific from set pieces last season but Welsh always carries a threat with his goal providing the platform to a very composed display.

The pattern continued in the second half with Ange Postecoglou sending on Giorgos Giakoumakis, David Turnbull and Liel Abada for the three Japanese players in the 66th minute.

With 15 minutes left to play Jota embarked on a solo run off the left flank, found space then fired a great diagonal shot across Dons keeper Kelle Roos high into the net.

There was plenty to encourage Postecoglou and areas to work on with the hoops back in action on Saturday away to Ross County.
