Chris Jullien is with the Celtic squad in Austria preparing for three friendly matches.

Last week the defender looked on his way out of the club when he flew out to undergo a medical with Schalke but that move fell through with Jullien back in training at Lennoxtown at the end of last week.

With a year left to run on his contract and just 15 minutes of action last season it seems unlikely that the Frenchman will have much of a part to play in the season ahead.

Covering the squad flying out to Austria earlier today, the Sun reports:

Christopher Jullien is with the squad having seen his proposed move to Schalke fall through at the last moment last week.

As late as last Wednesday night, it looked certain the 29-year old would be heading to the Bundesliga club on an initial loan with an option to buy.

While Jullien was out injured Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers were brought to the club last summer with that defensive duo playing every minute of the 2022 SPFL Premiership fixtures.

Celtic’s first pre-season match is on Wednesday against regional league side Wiener Victoria with Ange Postecoglou likely to rotate playing time across his squad with further matches against Rapid Vienna and Banik Ostrava.
