Report confirms that Celtic transfer talks have taken place with midfielder

Stephen Robinson has confirmed that Dylan Reid has held signing talks with Celtic.

The 17-year-old midfielder had been given permission to hold talks with the Scottish champions after an offer in the region of £125,000 was accepted by St Mirren.

Reid has been tipped for great things but the next two seasons will be critical if his potential is to be realised.

First team football seems to be attainable with St Mirren but Celtic can offer a far greater financial package and the prospect of making it through the system to work under Ange Postecoglou.

Radio Clyde reports Saints boss Robinson saying:

Celtic have had conversations with Dylan, I have had conversations with him and his parents. We want Dylan to stay. We think it is the best place for him to develop which has been proved.

I will throw young players in and we have done. The boy has a decision to make and we don’t want to put any more pressure on a young kid but we genuinely believe this is the best place for him to develop.

There’s other clubs interested in all our young players, at the minute there is only one who have made the board’s valuation (of Reid) so the rest is all speculation

An obvious compromise would be for Celtic to sign Reid and loan him back to St Mirren, that sort of arrangement has been agreed for Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan in the past.

If Reid opts for Celtic he would go into the B team playing in the Lowland League with the UEFA Youth League providing at least six more matches.
