Ferencvaros have been sending out mixed messages about the future of Ryan Mmaee.
The striker was linked with Celtic earlier in the transfer window but with Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis competing for the one position it does appear to be an area that Celtic are well covered in.
Mmaee is currently out injured and in the final year of his contract which makes things delicate for Ferencvaros who lost twice to Celtic in the Europa League group stage last season.
So far Ange Postecoglou has signed a goalkeeper, left-back, centre half and a winger with further additions expected as the first pre-season friendlies are played this week
Covering the situation with Mmaee which was raised at a Q and A with Ferencvaros Sporting Director, Tamas Hajnal, the Daily Record reports:
When asked if there was any movement on Celtic’s interest in Mmaee, Hajnal told Ferencvaros fan site Ulloi129: ” No. He is currently recovering from his injury. We are waiting for him to help us when he is in good condition. It is almost impossible for him to leave before the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year.”
However, he admitted he couldn’t completely shut the door on any potential deal this summer, adding: “At the moment, every position has the right competitive situation. Based on the composition, we can play football in different game systems. But I cannot conclusively state that there will be no more changes. There is still a lot of time until the end of the transfer window.”
At the age of 24 Mmaee fits the profile of many of Postecoglou’s signings, with Morocco playing in the World Cup Finals he could be in the shop window just before being able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January.
