After failing miserably to get their £20m asking price, the world’s most insecure football club went all defensive over the £6m transfer fee from Southampton for Joe Aribo.
A simple ‘undisclosed fee’ would have covered it for most clubs but the need to portray a big time image brought out the use of significant rather than admit the truth over a fee that won’t provide Giovanni van Bronckhorst with significant new funds.
In 2022 few big time clubs consider £6m as significant. The deal was so ‘significant’ that Southampton dragged it out over three days, comfortable in the knowledge that no other club was interested in the 25-year-old.
Really needed that ‘significant’ in there. Plain old ‘undisclosed’ not good enough for the world’s oldest, biggest and most insecure new football club?! https://t.co/2hyoENkGjz

With just three years distinguished service there should be some epic comments when veterans Morelos and Kent leave the club formed by Charles Green in the summer of 2012.
