Celtic Park is poised for a whole new look with the club’s social media team preparing for a makeover.

Back in 2015 the club decided to spruce up the outside of the stadium with giant banners to some of the most significant players and moments installed outside the Lisbon Lions and Jock Stein stands.

Against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday the perimeter of the stadium looked spartan as preparations for the new look were underway.

Whether it is Saturday’s game against Norwich City or the SPFL opener against Aberdeen it seems that a new look isn’t far away but choosing the highlights of 135 years is no mean task.

Naturally the Lisbon Lions will be at the centre of any display but the number of famous triumphs is getting harder to whittle down.

Even during the bleakest period in the club’s history, between the end of World War II and the arrival of Jock Stein there was the Coronation Cup Winning side and the 7-1 team with legends such as Charlie Tully, Willie Fernie, Sean Fallon, Neil Mochan and Billy McPhail.

From 65 onwards the club is spoiled for choice with two 9-in-a-row eras, the 4-2 team of 79, the Centenary side, legends like Paul McStay, Tommy Burns, Roy Aitken, Danny McGrain through to Scott Brown, Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and a Quadruple Treble.

Ange Postecoglou set in place a new group of heroes, it is too early to honour them at the moment but the incentives are there as they discovered last season when over 10,000 fans welcomed the champions back from Tannadice ahead of a weekend of trophy-lifting celebrations.
