Two former Celtic players react to Boli Bolingoli’s exit

Moi Elyounoussi and Karamoko Dembele have wished Boli Bolingoli good luck after the defender left Celtic for Mechelen.

Three highly eventful years came to an end for the Belgian with a low key departure from Celtic with a year left to run on his contract.

Whenever his name is mentioned Bolingoli will be associated with Lockdown and a brief visit to Spain that contributed to Celtic’s demise in season 2020/21- without a single fan getting in to watch a game.

There were multiple aspects involved in a horrific season ranging from Leigh Griffiths to Dubai- all masterminded by Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon who insisted throughout that they were in control and the best men for the job. Fortunately Celtic kicked off last season with both men no longer in place.

How Bolingoli was able to book onto flights in and out of Prestwick during Lockdown conditions without anyone at Celtic knowing looks like remaining a mystery.

At the time anyone returning from Spain had to self-isolate- Lennon sent Bolingoli on as a late substitute at Kilmarnock apparently unaware of his Spanish jaunt.

Although the incident is firmly in the past the losses to Celtic were huge- even greater than the £2.5m fee paid to Rapid Vienna plus wages and signing on fees for what was intended to be Kieran Tierney’s replacement.
