The agent for Moritz Jenz is reported to be arriving in Glasgow to complete negotiations for a season long loan at Celtic.

A year ago the defender joined Lorient on a five year contract but that deal didn’t go to plan with his new club avoiding a relegation Play Off on goal different with Jenz playing in just 17 of the 38 Ligue 1 fixtures.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt the preferred central defensive partnership Jenz is unlikely to move straight into Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI. Following the winter break last season Starfelt and Certer-Vickers played every minute of Celtic’s SPFL Premiership fixtures.

At 9.30 on Tuesday morning Joseph tweeted:

UPDATE: The agent of Moritz Jenz is due in Glasgow today to continue discussions with Celtic. The Hoops hope to complete the signing of the Lorient defender on a season-long loan, with an option to buy.

That followed up his Monday evening tweet:

Celtic are in talks with Lorient over a potential loan deal for centre-back Moritz Jenz. The 23-year-old was a target last summer when he was at Lausanne-Sport. Talks are said to be progressing well for a season-long loan, but an option-to-buy clause is still to be negotiated.

As the loan deals for Jota and Carter-Vickers proved last season those type of transfers can be more complex than a permanent move. Nailing down clauses, rights to buy and sell-on details can test negotiations.

Although Jenz was born in Berlin he moved to Fulham at the start of his professional career with the London club providing Patrick Roberts. Moussa Dembele and Matt O’Riley with their first steps in the professional game.

With the agents for Jenz in Glasgow it looks like negotiations are at an advanced stage as Postecoglou looks to get his squad in place with under a fortnight to go until the opening SPFL Premiership fixture against Aberdeen.
